The Buria Reds (BR) held off the Darebo Mix Dogs (DMD) in a thrilling 16-16 draw on Saturday 18th in the KCK Rigo Rice Cup Leg-2 Round 2 match at the Bava Park in Port Moresby city, with the intense 70 minutes showdown left fans on the edge of their seats.
The first half saw both teams locked in a battle of precision, with DMD’s Richard Ata assisted his team take the lead on the score board with a try and Uda Morea converted a successful penalty conversion shortly after.
The Reds responded with Morea Tai crossing over the try line for a try but followed by an unsuccessful conversion. Buria Reds went into halftime trailing the DMD 6-4.
The second half brought more drama as DMD’s scored two tries by Jayjay Waka and Uda Morea adding four points each, continuing their relentless effort to break away. However, the BR mounted a spirited response through Morea Tai’s and Lou Nou’s contributions of two separate tries and two successful conversions by Karavu Vagi.
Despite the back-and-forth scoring, neither side could edge ahead.
The match also saw a player sinbinned for unsportsmanlike conduct, highlighting the high stakes and intensity on the field.
The draw result leaves both teams sharing 1 point each as the competition heats up.
