Western Highlands Province (WHP) now has a fully operational drug rehabilitation center to provide help, counseling, and rehabilitation for people struggling with substance abuse.
The WHP Administration through the Division of Law and Justice and District Services have established an office right in the heart of Mt Hagen town to address the growing drug abuse problem in the province.
Drug Rehabilitation Coordinator, Jeffery Ducky Johannes, in a media statement announced that his office is now fully operational and open to the public.
He says the center aims to help Individuals addicted to marijuana, cocaine, homebrew, steam and other illicit substance. It also targets youths, students and families whose lives and education have been affected by drug use while also providing guidance to parents and guardians on how to handle children that abuse drugs. Additionally, the office will provide help and information to communities seeking awareness and prevention programs.
Johannes emphasized that their core mission is to help drug users get back on their feet without judgement or punishment.
“We do not punish. We seek to help rehabilitate drug users through counseling and proper referral pathways and then reintroduce and reintegrate them back into their families, communities, and society as productive citizens.”
He urged people and families affected to step forward to seek help.
“If you are struggling with drug addiction, or if you are a parent watching your child being destroyed by drugs, please do not suffer in silence. Come and see us. All discussions will be treated with confidentiality and respect.”
