Students of Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School were the first of 50 schools in NCD to receive over 1000 handwashing soaps, thanks to the United Nations Children’s Emergency Funds (UNICEF) and Colgate-Palmolive in their collective efforts to promote regular hand-washing.
According to Colgate Palmolive’s Retail Marketing Manager Rhoda Mojica there are 250 thousand hand soaps to be distributed in PNG with the official launching on Thursday last week at the Sacred Heart Catholic Primary school.
“In response to the Covid-19 Pandemic, we aim to make washing of hands a normal practice hence the launching of this special soaps specifically made for hand washing,” she said.
Mojica also advised the students that the washing of hands should be a lifelong habit.
UNICEF’s Wash Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Specialist Pravin More said that through their program they have set up hand washing stations in 50 NCD schools and therefore took the initiative to distribute these soaps as well.
“Under our WASH program we have been supporting schools in promoting hand washing and so this handwashing soaps are timely and go hand in hand with the handwashing stations,” added More.
Deputy Principal of the primary school Mrs. Mohe expressed gratitude to both UNICEF and Colgate Palmolive.
