The Chief Justice yesterday confirmed the death of the late Justice Nicholas Kirriwom, CMG, who at the time of his passing was the Judge Administrator for the East and West Sepik Province and also Manus Province. He died in office whilst serving his third term as a Judge of the National Courts and Supreme Courts. He passed away in the morning of Monday 12th April 2021, whilst receiving medical treatment at the Pacific International Hospital in Port Moresby. Newcrest Mining through its wholly owned subsidiary Lihir Gold Limited has delivered K542 000 worth of essential medical supplies to Nimamar Local Level Government in the Namatanai district of New Ireland province. The medical supplies were procured under Newcrest’s Community Support Fund (CSF) established in April 2020 to help Newcrest’s host communities respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. With over 1500 essential workers already vaccinated in Port Moresby, Health Minister Jelta Wong is optimistic that the numbers will continue to increase as the demand around the country grows. This morning the first batch of 132,000 vaccines arrived in Port Moresby through the COVAX facility in preparation for the Governments National Vaccine Roll out . Police Commissioner and Controller of the PNG COVID-19 National Pandemic Response David Manning today issued 12 new measures which became effective on Tuesday 13th of April 2021 as PNG’s COVID-19 cases rose to 8,602. These measures will replace all previous measures and now also include the ability for earlier identification of positive COVID-19 cases through the use of the antigen rapid diagnostic tests.
