Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) launched its COVID-19 Vaccination Roll-out on Friday 21st May in Tabubil, Western Province. The launching marked the first batch of 1,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine which OTML received from the National Department of Health on Wednesday 19th May. OTML Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Musje Werror with the Company’s senior management and employees, including its contractors, business partners, Tabubil Hospital staff, and teachers received their first dose of the vaccine. The Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (“PNGOC”) is aware of the recent media publications regarding a complaint made to Police against weightlifter Dika Toua. The PNGOC is informed that Dika has engaged legal counsel, which is her Constitutional right. The PNGOC respects the Court’s processes and looks forward to a speedy resolution of this matter.  Until such time as the matter is concluded, Dika remains part of Team PNG for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. A total of 13,608 people have recovered from COVID-19 whilst 890 cases remain active within the last 21-day period. PNG’s total number of positive cases to date stands at 14,639 with recent cases reported while the total number of deaths is 141. 13,420 people have received their first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. The majority or 10,443 are essential workers whilst the rest, 2,977 are health workers. Papua New Guinea recorded 298 new COVID-19 cases including two new deaths this week, increasing the total number of cases to 14,639. The two recent deaths were a male and a female, aged 64 and 70, both recorded in the Eastern Highlands province. They were both hospitalized and one had an underlying medical condition. Papua New Guinea recorded three new COVID-19 deaths this week, increasing the total number of deaths in the country to 139. The three deaths were reported in three provinces – National Capital District, Western and Southern Highlands. Of the deaths, two were symptomatic and had existing medical conditions and were hospitalized, one of whom required a ventilator. They were aged 59, 70 and 74 years old.
