Three more students from the University of Papua New Guinea will have successfully completed their internship program with Port Moresby Nature Park this week.
Chilla Sine, Philemon Varihombui and Dave Laki are all Final Year students in Tourism & Hospitality at UPNG who undertook an eight-week internship program as part of their practical assessment.
They were each given rotational shifts throughout their tenure with the Nature Park, enabling them to gain such knowledge and hands-on experience in the various departments within a tourism organisation such as the Port Moresby Nature Park.
“This is the third batch of interns we’ve had this year at Nature Park and we as a team are happy to have supported more youth and young leaders through such programs, giving them the necessary skill and knowledge to start off their career once they complete their tertiary education”, said Francis Semmy, Port Moresby Nature Park’s Human Resource Manager.
“The interns have been rotating between the Education, Marketing, Guest Relations and Human Resource Department here at the Park to gain varied job experience and skills to help them in future”, added Mr Semmy.
The students’ internship program has been hailed a success and the HR department along with the Park’s management and staff wish the students well in their studies and future endeavours.
With over 550 resident animals and 30 acres of tropical gardens, the park relies heavily on its workforce to keep it maintained thus the organisation provides support and continued learning to all staff including volunteers and interns to continue the shared mission of environment conservation.
Port Moresby Nature Park is a charity organization that relies on grants and donor funding to operate. By visiting the park and joining its Annual Membership Program, you help support the Park’s efforts in preserving PNG’s unique natural environment for future generations, including the Park’s 550 resident animals, majority of which have been surrendered to the Park for care.
