Prime Minister James Marape extended a heartfelt welcome to distinguished international and domestic guests attending the Prime Minister’s Dinner at eh APEC Haus in Port Moresby on Monday evening, September 15, 2025.
In his opening remarks, Marape was honored to express special recognition to His Royal Highness Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, underscoring the royal family’s enduring ties to the country. He affirmed PNG’s place in the Commonwealth and its bond with the United Kingdom, noting that the Duke was welcomed as both a friend and a member of the Commonwealth family.
“You are not amongst strangers, but amongst people who call your family, our family too,” he said.
Moreover, Marapae also acknowledged and underlined the strong presence of Australian leaders, led by Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, reflecting on Australia’s continued endured partnership since Independence in 1975.
“I want to give recognition to the Australian leadership, past and present, who are here tonight and who have been with us every step of the way since 15th September,” Marape stated.
The Prime Minister also welcomed delegates from across the Pacific, Asia, Europe, and the Americas, recognizing their contributions to the country’s development.
“All of you are very much part of our story… whether you are from overseas or from within, you represent a part of PNG’s 50 years of history,” Marape said.
Marape concluded his welcome with gratitude, affirming that their presence was a sign of friendship and partnership.
“Tonight, you are here because you have played a part. Whether from Asia, the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, or the Pacific, you are very much part of the great big family,” he declared.
