The Asila Waghi Tumbe overpowered PRK Gulf Isou with a 28-18 victory in a tight match that kept fans on edge throughout.
Waghi Tumbe forged a relentless victory in a fiery Digicel ExxonMobil Cup Round 16 clash at the Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
The Tumbe’s opened the scoreboard taking early control, as Goi Sakipo and Daniel Toli scored back-to-back tries, followed by a powerful finish from John Karepa. With accurate conversions from Charlie Simon and Scott Francis, Tumbe quickly established dominance.
However, PRK Gulf Isou responded with grit and fire. Karis Peter sparked their comeback with two standout tries, while Perry Iva’a added another just minutes later. Felix Beki successfully converted all three, bringing Isou back into the contest.
Despite Isou’s momentum, Tumbe’s regrouped and attacked with Karepa completing his double, and Matthew Jesse finishing off a late set with a decisive try.
Additional conversions from Scott Francis and Steven Komo maintained Tumbe’s perfect 4-from-4 kicking record, stretching the lead and extinguishing Isou’s hopes.
Both teams showcased thrilling rugby, with Isou displaying resilience and flair, but Tumbe’s superior execution under pressure, and error-free kicking proved the difference.
This victory reinforces Asila Waghi Tumbe’s status as serious contenders in the 2025 season, while PRK Gulf Isou, though valiant in defeat, will need to regroup as the competition tightens into the finals.
