The Grand Final of the 2021 Vice Chancellors Cup was called off after half time by the organizing committee due to the place getting dark and the status of the supporters this evening at the UPNG Rugby Oval.
This prompted the games committee to call off the second half of the grand final playoffs between the UPNG Pythons and the Unitech Spartans.
Mr. Max Andrew from the Vice Chancellor’s Cup Organizing Committee said that due to the place getting dark and the nature of the surroundings, the match had to be called off with no further advise as to whether the game will be postponed to a later date.
Andrew said an update on the status of the game will be given later tonight at the UPNG Drill Hall during a dinner that has been organized by the games committee.
“The Unitech Spartans wanted to continue on with the game but given the circumstances, the committee decided to call of the game.”
“The committee will be gathering straight after this to decide on the status of the grandfinal,” Mr Andrew said.
Upon completion of the first half, the scores for both teams remained at 4-0 in favor of the UPNG Pythons.
Efforts to reach the UPNG SRC President Mr. Bradley Yombon-Copio for comments on outcome of the finals and the general behavior of students and spectators on the field were unsuccessful.
