The 29-year East Sepik man who allegedly killed his own two sons on Tuesday this week at Morata 1 in NCD is still in police custody awaiting charges to be laid against him. The suspect Dave Benjamin Gau was this week arrested for the alleged murder of his sons; 5-year-old Shane and 2-year-old Ethan after an argument with his wife. NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Gideon Ikumu told this newsroom this morning that they are now waiting for a psychiatric to assess the suspect’s state of mind before any decision to charge him. “What kind of charges and whether those charges will be laid on him or not depends on the outcome of the assessment and evaluation of the suspect’s mental health.” Ikumu said they have spoken to the Psychiatric Department at the Port Moresby General Hospital to send a doctor over to carry out the assessment and they are still waiting on this. Meanwhile, autopsy reports for both boys and witness statements are expected to be finalized today.
