Thousands of people in the hinterlands of Zunzaing and Masa bordering Finschafen and Sialum in Tewai-Siassi District will now be connected by road.
The 4-kilometere road has connected Zunzaing to Masa and will connect across the Masaweng River into Finschafen and then to Lae.
Tewai-Siassi MP Kobby Bomareo inspected the roadworks over the weekend and met with locals in the impacted communities.
“This road will continue as long as I am pushing for funding from the National Government to the Department of Works,” says Dr. Kobby when speaking to locals at Rua village.
The local MP drove all the way to Kanome station in Sialum where he inspected a newly built market facility, police houses and a proposed shelter for seafarers at Kanjarua jetty.
Dr. Kobby overnight at Sialum station and travelled by boat to Wasu where he inspected the Belombibi-Karangan, Hongo-Wawet and Wasu-Kikiong to Bumbu-Ipang road.
“Slowly but surely we are connecting remote and isolated communities to the LLG headquarters where they can access better government services,” says Dr. Kobby.
The new roads are opening up massive potentials in agricultural crops production in organic cocoa and coffee.
This is part of the Marape-Basil government’s connect PNG road program under the NDoW.
