Dr. Noah Tapaua, the country’s first cardiothoracic surgeon, has been awarded with the Communion of the Asia Pacific Society of Cardiac award, marking a significant milestone for the country’s medical sector.
Dr. Tapaua received the recognition on May 3rd at an esteemed ceremony in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, eliciting widespread applause and pride, particularly from the esteemed Governor of New Ireland, Sir Julius Chan.
Governor Chan praised Dr. Tapaua’s accomplishments, highlighting the surgeon’s major contributions not only to Papua New Guinea but also to his beloved home province of New Ireland.
He stressed the critical role Dr. Tapaua has played in improving the reputation of both the country and his distant community on Mussau Island.
“You have added onto the list of pioneering New Irelanders in the likes of PNG’s first teacher Boski Tom, National record holder of High jump Edward Laboran, first PNG commercial pilot late Minson Peni, and current owner of Paradise hospital Dr. Robin Sios, just to name a few,” said Sir Julius Chan, underlining the special line of successes from the region.
Drawing on personal experience, Governor Chan described his own interaction with Dr. Tapaua’s skills during a medical incident at Paradise Hospital, when he was deeply impressed by the surgeon’s sensitive approach to patient care.
“May you continue to lift the flag of PNG and New Ireland. On behalf of all New Irelanders, I congratulate you once again and wish you even more success in your future endeavors,” conveyed Sir J, extending heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Tapaua on behalf of the entire New Ireland community.
