The Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea has opened its Senior National Final Trials today at the Taurama Aquatic & Indoor Centre, running until 7 September.
The trials will decide Team PNG’s roster for the FIBA Melanesian Cup in Honiara, a key qualifier for the 2027 Pacific Games in Tahiti.
This final phase follows a year-long selection process, beginning with the 2024 National All Star Championships in Goroka, before progressing through regional trial camps in Mt. Hagen and Port Moresby.
Athletes will be tested through high performance benchmarks, on-court drills, game-based scrimmages, and player profiling to assess skill, fitness, teamwork, and resilience.
According to BFPNG, registration opens at 7:00am daily, and all athletes must present a valid passport copy.
Officials say the camp is the last chance for players to secure a national team jersey and represent Papua New Guinea on the Melanesian stage.
