Port Moresby General Hospital celebrated Independence with the birth of 44 babies born on September 16th, among them were one set of twins and one set of triplets.
19 were boys and 25 were girls, with three births delivered via caesarean section.
The largest baby of the day was a boy weighing 4.7 kg, followed by a girl weighing 4.2 kg.
The hospital’s Independence triplets are presently under specialized care in the hospital’s Special Care Nursery, closely supervised by the dedicated neonatal team.
For many mothers, the timing of their delivery made the experience memorable.
Betalie Vagi, 32, from Goroka, Central, and Kerema, joyfully held her third child, a baby boy, with immense gratitude.
Angela, 33, from Milne Bay and Rigo, marked her first birth with deep emotion, feeling blessed that her baby arrived on such a historic day.
Midwives and nurses also shared in the happiness, acknowledging that while every birth is unique, welcoming new life on the nation’s golden jubilee added a layer of significance.
These newborns, born on the landmark anniversary, symbolize the promise of Papua New Guinea’s future, representing the enduring spirit of the country carried forward by its youngest generation.
