The Morata Neighbourhood Watch (MNW) in the National Capital District (NCD) submitted its festive operations-report to police authorities ad hopes to prolong MNW Duties.
The MNW head Jeremiah Pera told PNG HAUSBUNG the thrill of working closely with Law Enforcement toward a safe and peaceful New Year and has released the final reports to Chief Inspector David Terry to present to Acting CP Donald Yamasombi as official operations reports directly from the MNW.
Mr. Pera stated that following the release of the official reports from his MNW team, him and his team wishes to further prolong the initiative throughout the year and remains positive awaiting feedback yet to be given from the Acting or Commissioner of Police.
The MNW initial kick-off saw 45 personnel including five volunteers.
The team was separate to two stations, the Morata Roundabout and Morata Community Hall keeping the peace.
25 personnel were stationed at the Morata’s Centre Community Hall and 15 were attending the front lines of Morata Roundabout, Labu Street.
Despite starting on the Christmas Wednesday 25th December 2024 with a week of operations, the MNW has resolved close to 10 cases within the Morata community.
This includes the most recent bag snatcher that was chased and gave up the belongings of a young couple from Jiwaka on Wednesday January 1st, 2025, New Year Day.
Mr. Pera stated that the most common cases were drunk brawls which were easily settled but very frequent.
Furthermore Mr. Pera stated that it was a thrilling experience to work alongside NCD Police including various youth along Morata, especially those among the Magani Freeway.
The MNW team remains eager to prolong their duties throughout the year and currently await the feedback of the Acting Commissioner of Police.
