Prime Minister (PM) James Marape has joined the rest of the world leaders today to congratulate the new British Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer on his election victory.
“On behalf of the Government and People of Papua New Guinea, I congratulate Prime Minister-elect, Hon. Sir Keir Starmer, on his election as Prime Minister, as I congratulate Labour Party on its victory.
PM Marape said Papua New Guinea remains a loyal friend of Britain and a committed member of the Commonwealth of Nations and looks forward to continuing this long partnership between the two nations with Prime Minister Starmer into the future.
“I also take the time to thank former Prime Minister, Hon. Rishi Sunak for his leadership and wish him well in his future endeavours, ” said Prime Minister Marape
Meanwhile, Starmer’s Labour Party handed a brutal defeat to the Conservatives following his victory, ending 14 years of Conservative rule in Britain.
In his victory speech, the new British PM, a former prosecutor and a centrist who supports NATO and Ukraine, promised to govern for every single person in his country.
