The recent launch of the new ICT learning center at Kondiu Secondary School in Simbu Province marked an important achievement in the expansion of technological access to rural schools.
The initiative, led by the National ICT Authority (NICTA), was part of a larger project aimed at improving ICT infrastructure across Papua New Guinea.
NICTA’s Chief Executive Officer, Kila Gulo-Vui, was on hand to officiate the event, accompanied by a team from the Economic and Social Infrastructure Program (ESIP) as well as senior officials from both NICTA and Simbu Education.
The launch of the Kondiu ICT center was held simultaneously with two other key projects—the opening of Kundiawa Nursing College and the Kondom Agundo Memorial High School, which all fall under NICTA’s Universal Access and Services (UAS) program.
Acting Minister for ICT, Peter Tsiamalili Jnr., presided over the other two launches.
Addressing the audience, CEO Kila Gulo-Vui expressed the honor and privilege that Kondiu had in being selected for the project, highlighting the school’s standing among 10,000 secondary schools nationwide, and one of just 126 in Simbu Province.
The new ICT center is equipped with 20 computers and features broadband internet connectivity, supported by a solar-powered backup system to ensure sustainable access to digital learning tools.
This modern facility is poised to support over 1,200 students, alongside more than 100 teachers and support staff.
The initiative, under NICTA’s UAS Connect the School Project, represents a vital step in bridging the digital divide, especially in remote areas.
