Police in Jiwaka have sought the assistance from the general public in the province to assist them in apprehending suspects involved in an a act of arson at the Kudjip Primary School recently.
Jiwaka Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Gideon Kauke called on the community in Kudjip to assist them in the handing over of suspects responsible for the recent burning down of a classroom and school office building belonging to the Kudjip Primary School early hours of last Thursday.
Reports from police say a double storey classroom with 25 computers in it was burnt down by arsonists whose identities are not known to police.
“We are working on it – we have given the responsibility to the communities to look for the suspects and hand them in to the police. I have directed OIC CID to take carriage of the case,” PPC Kauke said.
Kauke warns that the failure of the community to act on this will result in shutting down of the school as well as the local market until such a time when suspects have been handed over to police.
PPC Kauke also condemned the actions by the perpetrators, calling on community leaders to get into groups and start conducting their own investigations while police are doing their investigations.
He called on the anyone with leads to the arson in the school to come forward with information to get the investigations underway.
