National Capital District (NCD) and Central Province Police will be on high alert to monitor closely public movement and behaviour following fake sit-in-protest circulated on social media.
NCD and Central Commander, acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (A/ACP) Benjamin Turi made this announcement in a statement today 1st, March 2024, issuing his direct into immediate effect on Monday 3rd 2025.
Commander Turi instructed his commanders to monitor people regarding a circulated document about a sit-in protest.
He confirmed that the police had not received any official notice about this protest.
Any unnotified public gathering is considered illegal, and participants will be arrested and charged with unlawful assembly.
“The police had seen the document circulated on social media and had enquired who the author of the document is, but no one had turned up.”
“This shows that the document is fake, and the police will not entertain any public gathering regarding that on Monday at Unagi or anywhere in the city.”
“I have directed my commanders to inform their officers to be on alert to arrest and charge anyone.”
“We do not want another crisis in the city like Black Wednesday last year,” Turi said.
Furthermore, Turi stated that the document about a sit-in protest circulating on social media is fake.
He advised the institution with their stamp on the document to file a formal complaint for investigation.
Turi emphasized that everyone has the right to raise concerns but must follow the proper process to avoid future issues.
“With that I as the commander of NCD/Central discourages anyone who want to take part in that gathering because it’s not a formal gathering.”
“If you are caught, you will be arrested and charged.”
