Ten (10) students from the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG), Pacific Adventist University (PAU) and the PNG University of Technology (PNGUoT) are the recipients of Ok Tedi Mining Limited’s (OTML) 2024 Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme (USS) with a funding commitment totalling over K300, 000.
The 2024 batch of USS awardees from UPNG (1), PAU (2) and PNG UoT (7) are in their third year of study from various disciplines.
The disciplines include Geology, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Electrical & Communication Engineering, Applied Physics, Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing, Surveying, and Geotechnical Engineering.
OTML has paid a total of K310, 307.54 to the three universities under the USS program.
Of the amount paid, UPNG received K18, 515, PAU received K78, 172, and PNG UoT received K213, 620.54.
The number of awardees is based on the relevance of their study disciplines to OTML work applications.
The scholarship covers:
• Full Tuition & Boarding Fees for the year
• A stipend
• A book allowance
• Travel assistance
• Industrial Training
• An automatic offer into the two-year Graduate Development Program upon successful completion of studies with excellent academic and behavioural performance in the final year.
OTML’s Undergraduate Scholarship Award Scheme supports high-performing students studying at PNG’s tertiary institutions in disciplines relevant to OTML work areas.
The Program aims to assist university undergraduate students with school fees and other associated costs, while also ensuring that OTML maintains an industry-institution relationship with the universities that provide graduates for its training programs and workforce.
Beginning in 2007 and reintroduced in 2023 following a hiatus after 2014, OTML has invested over K830, 000 in the USS program, sponsoring 60 undergraduate students so far.
