The Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) completed its visit to Papua New Guinea, the 31st country out of the 72 Commonwealth nations and territories it is visiting. The Baton was taken to Wewak on Saturday, 29th of January and was officially welcomed by, PNG Commonwealth Games Association President and Honorary Life Member of the Commonwealth Games Federation, Sir John Dawanincura, East Sepik Governor Hon. The St John Ambulance have temporarily suspended their services in Kundiawa, Chimbu Province following an attack on one of their Ambulances. The St John Ambulance Service was out in full force during the new year celebrations with 6 ambulance units on road and more than 28 ambulance officers, paramedics and clinical crews on duty from 6pm to 6am at the Ambulance Headquarters 3mile. A total of 36 cases and incidents were attended to across the city by ambulance personnel and paramedics. Nine children have been rushed to the Port Moresby General Hospital by a St John Ambulance an hour ago following a car accident today at the popular accident hotspot – the Waigani Boulevard traffic light intersection (Somare Circuit). Out of the 26,544 grade 12 students that sat for this year’s National Examination, only 9852 students made it through and they were selected to higher learning institutions around the country. This was revealed today following the official launching of the Grade 12 online Selection, officiated by the Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science (DHERST) and Technology, Mr Wesley Raminai. Sister in Charge for the Gordons Clinic Sr Delma Hombunaka has called upon the National Department of Health (NDOH) to reconsider their decision and allow the Nurse Stations to remain open. She made this call following a circular released by the NDOH giving the Nurse Stations 14 days to close down. More than 250,000 people that have accessed the City Pharmacy (CPL) Nurse stations since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic will be greatly affected with the recent directive from the National Department of Health (NDOH) to close up all Nurse Stations throughout the country. 63 unclaimed bodies at the Port Moresby General Hospital mortuary will be buried today in a mass burial. Among the bodies are nine children, 54 adults and 11 body parts. These bodies are from the month of March and April which have been put on notice for relatives to collect, however only a few of them were claimed by relatives. Over 18,000 grade 12 students who sat for the National Examination this year will miss out on selections for Tertiary level of education. The Acting secretary for the Department of Higher Education Research Science and Technology (DHERST) Dr Francis Hualupmomi confirmed that 29,463 students sat for this year’s national exam, however only 11, 000 can be accommodated at the Tertiary level.
