A low turnout of voters for polling in the Bougainville by-election on 20 January 2021 had forced an extension for a second day and polling was completed on 21 January 2021 in all the three open electorates – North, Central and South Bougainville. In October 2020, Australia announced a $500 million (PGK 1.3 billion), three-year Regional COVID-19 Vaccine Access and Health Security Initiative to support governments in the Pacific and Southeast Asia to plan for, access and roll out safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines. When Phillip Solomon walked into the classroom in 2018 his students could not read or write – and he was determined to change this. Phillip is an elementary teacher at Ruatoka Elementary School in Rigo, Central Province – just an hour and a half drive from Port Moresby. He started teaching after being selected by his community to attend an elementary teacher training at the PNG Education Institute in 2003.
