The first level by-election training for the Returning officers (ROs), Assistant Returning officers (AROs) and Co-coordinators commenced yesterday afternoon at the PNG Electoral Commission head office, Hohola. There are a total of fifteen (15) officials who are undergoing training. This training is basically to know about their roles and responsibilities as contracted election officials, understanding the polling and counting process and procedures of this by-election, and managing the administrative roles and responsibilities. Papua New Guinea recorded three new COVID-19 deaths this week, increasing the total number of deaths in the country to 139. The three deaths were reported in three provinces – National Capital District, Western and Southern Highlands. Of the deaths, two were symptomatic and had existing medical conditions and were hospitalized, one of whom required a ventilator. They were aged 59, 70 and 74 years old. Also for the same period a total of 136 new COVID-29 cases were reported including the three deaths. Thousands of people in the hinterlands of Zunzaing and Masa bordering Finschafen and Sialum in Tewai-Siassi District will now be connected by road. The 4-kilometere road has connected Zunzaing to Masa and will connect across the Masaweng River into Finschafen and then to Lae.
