Papua New Guinea has recorded two new COVID-19 deaths on Saturday May 22, increasing the total number of deaths to 156. The deaths, a male and a female between the ages of 48 and 59 were reported in West New Britain. Also in the last 24 hours, 54 cases have been reported with Manus reporting the highest of 24 cases. The National Capital District reported 12 cases, Morobe six, Western Highlands five, Simbu two and Eastern Highlands, West Sepik, Central, Jiwaka and Hela reported a single case each. Papua New Guinea has recorded 221 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday May 20, and Friday May 21 respectively,  increasing the total number of cases to 15,133. 130 new cases were reported on Thursday while another 91 new cases on Friday with 154 known deaths. Papua New Guinea has recorded 91 new COVID-19 cases last week, increasing the total number of cases to 15,133. The cases were reported in six provinces in which East New Britain reported the highest of 57 cases. West New Britain reported 17 new cases, Madang nine cases, National Capital District four whilst Morobe and Jiwaka reported two cases each. India has reported more than 8,800 cases of deadly “black fungus” in a growing epidemic of the disease. The normally rare infection, called mucormycosis, has a mortality rate of 50%, with some only saved by removing an eye.
