Papua New Guinea has recorded two new COVID-19 deaths and 10 new cases in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Monday 05th of July, increasing the total number of deaths to 177 and total cases to 17,292. The two deaths were reported in the Hela province. Also in the last 24 hours ending midday Monday 05th July, 10 cases were reported in three provinces of which Simbu reported six cases, Morobe three and Western Highlands province a single case. Two people have died – a 50-year-old from Newtown in Nasinu and a 62-year-old from Raiwaqa, Suva. The Health Ministry said the deaths of both men had been under investigation to determine if they were caused by covid. Health Secretary James Fong said another death is being investigated if it was caused by the virus. Air Niugini would like to inform the travelling public that the runway lengths at Madang and Wewak airports are further shortened by the National Airports Corporation (NAC) to allow for runway maintenance and upgrading works at both airports.
