Over the last four months, the U.S Agency for International Development (USAID), through its PNG Lukautim Graun Program, have trained 1,168 people, mostly women, in financial literacy in Eastern Highlands and Jiwaka. The aim is to increase financial literacy in rural and remote communities throughout Papua New Guinea. Twenty-five students are spending six-weeks at Newcrest Mining Lihir’s gold operations, where they will be doing industrial training. Of the 25 students, nine are from New Ireland of which three are female. There are 11 female students in this batch. Two motor vehicles that were stolen on Friday 27th January and Saturday 28th January at two different locations in the National Capital District (NCD) were recovered thanks to the quick action by the police. The police responses in recovering stolen motor vehicles in the city have significantly improved since the establishment of the NCD Sector Patrol Units within the three electorates of NCD.
