A temporary roadblock at 14 mile outside of Lae City by grieving members of Wau Bulolo community has been cleared this afternoon after they were being addressed by Lae MP John Rosso and Markham MP Koni Iguan. BSP Financial Group Limited has closed its Padipadi Sub-Branch in Alotau, Milne Bay Province indefinitely, following an attempted armed robbery on Thursday 12th May, 2022, by a gang of up to 20 criminals. Commissioner of Police David Manning said the enforcement of the amendments to the Firearms Act has begun yesterday. Mr Manning, who is also the Registrar of Firearms, said policemen and women throughout the country are now directed to arrest and charge anyone in possession of illegal firearms, which under the amended laws carries a life imprisonment from May 19 onwards. Previously, offenders, if found guilty were given a maximum term of 10 to 20 years imprisonment. Air Niugini has resumed flights to Kagamuga airport, Mt Hagen this morning( Friday 13th May) after closely monitoring and assessing the situation on the ground. Flight PX 180 departed Port Moresby after 9am, this will be followed by three others flights today, PX 182, PX 184 and PX 188. The airline suspended services to Hagen yesterday due to civil unrest. Air Niugini operates up to five flights to Kagamuga airport daily.
