The Women’s Isuzu Cup 50 over competition started at Amini Park on Thursday May 12 with the NCD Capitals suffering a heavy defeat to the Momase Warriors. The NCD Capitals Captain Sibona Jimmy won the toss and sent the Tanya Ruma captained Momase Warriors into bat.
The Warriors posted what initially looked a low total of 132 from 35 overs. In response the Capitals were dismissed for 37 runs in the 14th over, giving the Warriors a win by 95 runs to start the Isuzu Cup.
For NCD Capitals Buruka Vicky took 3 wickets for only 11 runs in 4 overs, and Sibona Jimmy took 3 wickets for 31 runs from 8 overs. The Momase Warriors struggled with Tanya Ruma top scoring with 48 runs from 78 balls. The only other Warriors batters to get into double figures were Noani Vare with 24 off 54 balls, and Henao Jean Thomas with 21 off 32 balls. The Warriors didn’t look like they had scored enough runs with a score of 132 all out in 35 overs.
With a low total to defend, Mairi Tom for the Warriors produced a devasting spell, taking 4 wickets to fall for only 6 runs from her 6 overs. Imelda Vaburi finished off the Warriors with 4 wickets herself for 10 runs off 2.3 overs. For the Capitals, only Kevau Tanya Frank got to double figures with 15 off 23 balls.
Next for the Momase Warriors they take on the Normil Pirates on Monday May 16 at Amini Park.
