The United States Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), announced USD $5 million (17.8 million Kina) in support to the Government of Papua New Guinea’s ongoing COVID-19 response. Ballot papers for New Ireland is being distributed into the two respective electorates of Namatanai and Kavieng in preparation for polling. This sees ballot papers for Namatanai being delivered under tight police security into the Namatanai open electorate. On June 29, the seven clans in the Miruma community of Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) Eastern Highlands Province signed a conservation deed, legally enforcing their rights to protect their land and preserve its biodiversity for current and future generations. Electoral Commissioner Simon Sinai says ballot papers that were produced and supplied earlier to Port Moresby for the seven electorates that were split with the creation of seven new ones will be publicly destroyed.
