Acting District Administrator of Tambul Nebilyer Philip Taipa was arrested and charged yesterday by NCD Metropolitan police for illegally possessing high powered ammunition. Taipa allegedly attempted to smuggle 39 rounds of high powered rifle bullets into Mount Hagen yesterday when he was caught by security at the Jacksons Airport terminal. The public servant allegedly went to the airport and produced his pistol license and consigned a package containing the bullets when he was caught. In a bid to enable farmers to put into practice skills acquired during capacity building trainings, the EU Funded UN Joint STREIT PNG Programme has started distributing tools and materials that will enable rural communities to improve their husbandry practices in cocoa and vanilla blocks. Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel deployed on Operation KIMBA have been in PNG since early June at the request of the PNG Government to assist with the National Elections. The ADF has more than 130 personnel and three aircraft operating from the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) Air Transport Wing (ATW) in Port Moresby to provide planning, logistics and air transport support.
