A 6.0 magnitude earthquake occurred yesterday around 1.03pm in the waters of Central Gazelle, not too far from Kokopo, East New Britain Province. The Acting Assistant Directory of the Port Moresby Geophysical Observatory, Mr Mathew Moihoi said that due to the depth of the earthquake, the waves have travelled as far as Buka Island, and also in parts of West New Britain. “The occurrence of the earthquake is not related to the volcano but was instead triggered by a tectonic movement.
