Amazing Port Moresby has a new monthly event to look forward to, as the National Capital District Commission launches the NCD SME Fair on July 31. The SME Fair makes its debut in a public space outside the Depart of Works headquarter at 4-Mile this weekend, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The vision is to showcase a new suburb every month, including Hohola and Gerehu. The carnival style event is pitched as a sustained platform for vendors selling fresh produce, clothes, traditional artefacts, and food. There will also be live entertainment, with performances from youth volunteers from the Active City Development Programme. Dance, music, acrobats, circus, and bouncy castles are the other big highlights of the NCD SME Fair. Behind the scenes, there have been hectic activities to ensure the success of the initiative. Multiple awareness and training sessions have been conducted for the 60 participating vendors by the NCD SME Centre, the NCDC Market Division and ACDP. Participants have been trained on financial literacy, customer service, basic health and hygiene practices. For the community, this is an occasion not just to display their potential, but also take ownership. The ‘market mamas’ are taking their first step towards entrepreneurship, while the youth are being engaged as security personnel for the event. All city residents are invited to shop, join in the fun, and help support our communities as they dare to dream bigger.
