City Pharmacy Limited (CPL) Wellness Clinic, Vision City and with Niugini Assurance Group Limited (NAGL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), sharing a mutual goal to enhancing Healthcare in Papua New Guinea.
The MoU outlines a collaborative framework that provides enhanced healthcare access for insured clients. Depending on the client’s insurance policy, the MoU entitles NAGL-insured clients to access a range of medical services at CPL Wellness Clinics under discounted or fully covered payment schemes.
Meanwhile, eligible Niugini Assurance customers will pay policy excess from 0%, 10% or 20% based on their insurance coverage terms & conditions and the rest will be claimed by CPL Wellness Clinic, Vision City, from their insurer.
City Pharmacy’s Head of Pharmacy Mr. Pradeep Panda expressed gratitude to NAGL team in signing the Memorandum of Understanding, partnering with CPL Wellness Clinic, Vision City.
“One of the ongoing challenges in our country is the high cost of healthcare. The public health system is under significant strain, while private healthcare remains out of reach for many.”
“Recognizing this gap, we saw the need to introduce a solution that offers a balance between the two.”
“With our extensive experience in the healthcare sector, we made the strategic decision to establish medical centres that deliver affordable, quality healthcare to the community,” said Mr. Panda.
The first official medical centre opened marks the beginning of a new chapter in accessible healthcare delivery located in Vision City, offering well-equipped environment featuring laboratory services, radiology, optometry, dental care, and general consultations through City Pharmacy.
Pediatrics and obstetrics & gynecology are set to be included in upcoming service expansion plans. This pilot model serves as the foundation for a broader vision: to replicate similar healthcare centres across the country.
Under the agreement, the new medical-services provider will streamline its operations, apply lessons from its initial rollout, and leverage those insights to expand its impact nationwide accordingly:
CPL Wellness Clinic, Vision City will maintain accurate service records of all referred clients.
NAGL will reimburse CPL for services provided to clients with full insurance cover.
Payments will be processed via electronic fund transfers.
Strict confidentiality and compliance with PNG’s patient privacy laws will be upheld.
“The partnership between Niugini Assurance Group Limited (NAGL) and CPL Wellness Clinic, Vision City presents a valuable opportunity for our members. With a large membership base, this agreement ensures greater access to affordable healthcare—one of our key priorities.”
NAGL Claims Officer Mr. Levi Kariko, pointed out the uplifted burden of upfront payment for members and convenient access.
“Importantly, it also alleviates the burden of upfront payments for our members, making healthcare more accessible and convenient. We are grateful for the collaboration and extend our sincere thanks to CPL for making this partnership possible,” said Mr. Kariko.
The partnership reflects a broader effort to bridge the gap in healthcare affordability and access by leveraging private sector collaboration and innovation.
