Following the recent death of the Late Sir Julius Chan, the Minister for Tourism, Arts & Culture Belden Norman Namah, is now calling all Papua New Guineans to continue the legacy of our forefathers, now that most of them are gone.
“All the men of this land have now left, and it is up to the sons that remain to continue the legacy”, said Namah.
Namah, who is also the Member for Vanimo Green, said Papua New Guinea must look to the next generation of men to marshal hopes, carry dreams and continue the course.
“Either we find the next fathers of PNG, or the flicker succumbs to fate and fades into the annals of history,” he added.
He said the vacuum must be filled, the vacancies occupied, and the void must be filled, adding that the meaning of leadership and duty must be re-found.
“In our haste, we seem to have dropped it along the way, purpose and sacrifice must rekindle and guide our efforts like the North Star.”
“Our destiny must be reclaimed and clenched firmly once again by hands with determined grip and with hearts inspired and determined.”
This should not be only in politics, but in all manner of service to PNG in public and private vocations and in all undertakings.
Mr. Namah added also that, “We are truly at the thresholds, a precipice that will define our journey as a nation with uncertainties looming abroad, and a myriad of challenges at our doorsteps back home.”
Namah expressed deep concern of the importance of our future, stating further that all hands must labor together in service and that no men must squander valuable time and limited opportunities, opting to quarrel and squabble.
“We can choose to continue down this path and lose sight of our vision? Or we can unite to ensure the dreams and aspirations of our founding fathers regains meaning and support.”
“When PNG reflects in later years, perhaps on the eve of its 100th year; it must look back and celebrate the sacrifice and ingenuity of leaders today who forged the way.”
“PNG needs individuals who will inherit the torch and carry it forward, may our ’LAST MAN STANDING’ Sir J’s soul find eternal rest and peace as he joins his brothers and comrades having run his race.”
