The poor condition of the road connecting Okapa, Lufa, and parts of the Henganofi Districts in Eastern Highlands province, creates major difficulties for residents and affecting movement of goods, as this vital route is essential for accessing town where people seek public services and essential goods.
Connecting thousands of people and key commercial areas, such as coffee production in the district, the road has progressively worsened over time.
Public servants and residents in the remote areas of Okapa District are particularly affected, primarily due to inadequate road maintenance by the Okapa District Development Authority (ODDA), leading to increasing hardships.
Recent rainfall has further exacerbated the already problematic road conditions.
The head teacher of Yasubi Primary School, Mr. George Konou, has expressed his concerns about the situation.
“We need the Kripaga section of the road to be repaired during this time.”
He also highlighted the challenges posed by the Christmas rains, noting that certain parts of the Okapa roads are causing significant problems for the public.
“Schools are closing this week, and school administrators and board members are having a tough time when they get stuck on their way.”
Moreover, he emphasized the need to address this issue promptly to prevent further disruptions to services in the district
