Warimo Awana, the pastor of the Erima Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Port Moresby, urged all Papua New Guineans to respect one another and to celebrate responsibly during this festive season.
As the countdown to the end of 2024 begins, the New Year of 2025 is fast approaching. Working individuals and students will return home from their jobs and schools to be with their loved ones.
This is an exciting time to experience the true spirit of togetherness while reuniting with long-missed family members.
Heading into this climactic time of year filled with endless excitement, the anticipated celebrations will showcase style and color.
During this period, Pastor Warimo encouraged everyone to learn to respect and be considerate of one another for peaceful celebrations.
“I encourage all Papua New Guineans, especially young people, to avoid engaging in harmful activities that could cost a life. Instead, I urge you to abide by the country’s laws and, most importantly, to participate in any church-organized activities during the festive season.
“Celebrating under the influence of alcohol or engaging in criminal activities can lead to unplanned incidents and potentially cost you your life. This is completely unacceptable. We must understand that we have only one life to live,” Pastor Warimo said.
He further emphasized the importance of life, describing it as a special gift from God, and encouraged everyone to take time to appreciate its source.
“It is important for us to give thanks to the Lord for His constant love, guidance, and the daily blessings that keep us going.”
“Sometimes let’s be like King David and say, ‘I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well,’ as recorded in Psalms 139:14.”
