Popondetta MP, Richard Masere and the Popondetta District Development Authority (DDA) under the National Government’s Education Inclusive Platform (NGEIP) “Leave No Child Behind” have given prominence to this key initiative and launched several important education projects in November to ensure no child in Popondetta District is left behind.
The Popondetta DDA presented a K300, 000 cheque to Jart Building and Maintenance at the Bareji High School Graduation. The contractor is currently mobilizing to ensure work will commence during the festive period so that when the students resume school year in 2025, their facilities will be improved.
The DDA two years ago presented an Isuzu 4×4 Truck to the school to assist the school to transport students to and from the School. This was in line with the DDA’s effort to invest in and better the quality of education in the District.
The DDA also presented a K250, 000 cheque to Sangara Technical High School. The school, as part of the training and development of students, will construct the two new teachers’ houses. Additionally, the DDA presented a K700,000 cheque to Blats Movers Construction to construct the two new dormitory buildings for the school. It also presented a K700,000 cheque to Northern Development Limited to construct the six in one new Duplex Teachers Houses for Popondetta Secondary High School
Speaking during the presentation, Masare said, “I anticipate the school will commence soon so that their teachers will have homes in 2025 so they can teach our students better. The welfare of our teachers remains the key priority for me and the Popondatta DDA.
The Popondetta DDA also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a local business “Destiny China Scholarship” to provide an opportunity to students from Popondetta District to study in China.
“We will selection 20 young people (10 male and 10 female) to travel to China at the earliest next year under this collaborative opportunity. The District will meet the cost by working very closely with the Chinese Embassy in Port Moresby and Destiny China Scholarship to support our students to China.
“This will be the first step and upon the successful completion of the first batch of students, we anticipate that the number of students to China the following year will increase. Huge opportunity for our young people,” Masere said.
