“Never waste an opportunity to sell.”
These were the words of a keen and enthusiastic individual who has certainly paved a way for PNG women in the fashion industry.
Entrepreneur and Owner of Maku Gifts, Annette Sete, for the first time has pushed boundaries and gone out of her comfort zone in creating her first ever Runway Show. The first of its kind event, ending on a high note as more than 300 people attended the spectacular Lavagirl Xplosion Runway Show that was hosted at the APEC Haus, Port Moresby.
The show itself portrayed a total of twelve collections showcased by 40 models on the night. With all hard work paid off, Sete has produced and put in a lot of work that she and the team put together to create such a big event.
She expressed nothing but appreciation to everyone who has contributed towards the show. The night itself portrayed the different collections under the categories; Corporate Wear, Street Wear, Bilum Leather, Bold and Beautiful, Everyday Woman, Lavagirl Fragrance, Mad Maxi and Traditionally Inspired Design (TID). From the different collections showcased different fabrics to clothing to accessories that the stunning models portrayed.
Also a highlight of the night was collection of men’s wear including, shirts, caps and other wear from PNG Label Barata PNG owned by Christopher Lam who also worked tirelessly by Sete’s side to add color and creativity to the show.
According to Sete, the show took more than two years to plan and produce and being the first of its kind, it brought upon many challenges but she can finally say that it was a job well done. Sete also showcased new clothing just for mother’s day and encouraged everyone to see what they have in stock.
“We have collections that are predominantly for mother’s day and we have released the original crotons plants that are printed on the meri blouses just for that.”
Sete thanked all partners who came onboard in making the show happen including Vision City, Pacific Oil Management, Bilas Studio, Edgewood Hotel, Creative Arts Limited, Budget Rent A Car, PNG Air, Next of Kin Production, Coca Cola and others who have also supported.
