National Capital District (NCD) and Central Police Commander, Anthony Wagambie Junior has made a call to the members of parliament for NCD to support the city police with regards to logistics.
Wagambie made the call when giving his speech during the presentation of eight new vehicles to NCD Police Command this week.
“I want to take this opportunity to call on our political leaders, our Deputy Commissioner Administration is here, the Commissioners Chief of staff and the Director of transport, they have a limited budget to cater for vehicles and things like these for the whole country,” Wagambie said.
He stated that he would like to take the opportunity to call upon the political leaders of NCD to step in and assist the police, adding that they cannot keep on depending on the RPNGC HQ.
“The Police Headquarters have the whole country to look after, if other provinces can do it, why can’t we?” the ACP said.
Drawing from his experience in Lae, ACP Wagambie added that the sole member for Lae, now current Deputy Prime Minister, John Rosso, assisted the Police with 10 vehicles upfront.
“That time it was only one MP and that time he was with the opposition and now he’s purchased even more vehicles for police. That’s an open member for only one electorate alone,” he added.
So, now the onus is on the Political leaders to provide logistical support for the NCD Police Command and he is calling on the MPs to rehabilitate the police stations.
He further added that the state in which the police stations in the capital are in, are in dire need for repair.
Using Gordon Police station as an example, he said that the officers are not able to work there due to it’s urgent need for refurbishment.
