Four men are in police custody tonight after cowardly attacking an ambulance at Sabuia village near Gaire in Central Province.
The Saint Johns ambulance was responding to a distress call when it was attacked this evening.
Two ambulance workers were on their way to aid and transport a pregnant woman to Port Moresby General Hospital when they were unscrupulously attacked by a mob.
A group of drunk and violent men broke the ambulance windscreen and attempted to pull the key from the ignition, but the two medics escaped by driving towards Kwikila before raising the alarm.
Fox 101 was dispatched when the Police operations centre was alerted this evening.
The prime suspect in the centre of this crime is an elderly man.
He was arrested with three others and conveyed to Port Moresby today.
The four men were initially charged for provoking a breach of the peace and held in police custody.
This matter will be referred to CID and more relevant charges are likely to be slapped on them.
