57 new COVID-19 cases were recorded on Tuesday 20 July, increasing the total number of cases to 17,581 for Papua New Guinea.
All 57 cases were recorded in five provinces with Morobe recording the largest with 49 followed by East New Britain with three, the National Capital District and West Sepik two each and Madang with one case.
The COVID-19 death toll remains at 192.
Forty-seven of the new cases are males with ten females. Their ages range from 10 to 56 years. Twenty-five were symptomatic at the time of testing and four had underlying medical conditions. One of the new cases had to be hospitalized. Eleven of the new cases had contact with confirmed COVID-19 cases and two were health care workers.
To date, a total of 143,990 people have tested for COVID-19. Of the total confirmed cases to date 17,581 have recovered with 212 cases considered active within the last 21-day period.
All 22 provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have reported cases.
As of 19 July a total of 71,805 people in PNG have been vaccinated. This includes 8,337 health workers, 48,125 essential workers and 15,303 people with comorbidities or existing medical conditions.
Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 191,619,822. The death toll stands at 4,110,890.
