The ANGAU Memorial Provincial Hospital has confirmed that seven people lost their lives in a tragic motor vehicle accident on Saturday, July 6th, near the Erap Bridge in the Huon Gulf district.
St John Ambulance was the first to respond to the collision between a 25-seater PMV bus and a 5-door Land cruiser, which occurred at 1 pm along the Highlands Highway.
According to ANGAU Hospital Director of Curative Health Services, Dr. Steven James, all seven fatalities were passengers who died on impact.
“There were 27 people involved in the accident,” Dr. James reported.
“Seven of them died on impact, as confirmed by the ANGAU morgue, while the 20 survivors were taken to the Wampar Health Centre and then directed to ANGAU.”
Out of the 20 survivors, nine, including two children, have been admitted to the surgical ward.
Six are suffering from head injuries, while three have various fractures.
The Morobe Provincial Health Authority has extended its sympathies to the families who have lost their loved ones and offered prayers for those recovering from their injuries.
