The Milne Bay Community Association Inc. (MBCA) would like to thank the support of Consort Express Lines with shipping of donations collected from the Kapole Jam
Session-Alotau Appeal hosted on Saturday 15th May 2021 at the Vision City Mall (Outdoor) Amphitheatre.
Donations from the first of its kind Kapole Jam Session – Alotau Appeal hosted by the Milne Bay Community Association Inc. (MBCA) and wONEm Direction arrived in Alotau on Monday the 7th of June 2021, from Port Moresby with the help of Consort Express Lines.
Upon receiving positive response from the General Manager for Consort Express Lines, Mr Thomas Bellamy, these donations proceeded on to East West Transport warehouse, Baruni where they were loaded onto a 9’ (foot) container awaiting shipment to Alotau via Gazelle Coast.
Over 100 relief items were collected from individuals and community groups such as the Nidula Foundation, Milne Bay Friends Foundation, UPNG Milne Bay Students Union, and the Port Moresby community at large, all of whom came out to support this donation drive, while enjoying live Stringband performance by the Extracts of Alotau and wONEm Direction.
Prior to shipping, the donations were accommodated at the residence of Mrs Theresa Segodi Kilamanu for 3 weeks where they were sorted and repacked by the family into 69 bags and cartons. All 69 relief items arrived safely in Alotau and were received by a team of volunteers from the PNG Red Cross Society – Milne Bay branch
led by Mr Bildad Kadada who organised collection and transportation to the Red Cross office with the help of Milne Bay Transport Authority and PNG Ports Corporation Ltd.
More than 30 distressed families who lost their homes as a result of the ongoing law & order crisis in Alotau district, will be the recipients of these donations once they have been properly sorted by Mr Kadada and his team.
The MBCA has been working closely with the PNG Red Cross Society– Milne Bay branch to offer support wherever necessary in light of the current situation and will be raising funds through various fundraising drives in Port Moresby to meet the cost of expenses incurred from these and other relief initiatives.
The work of the MBCA is purely community based, and the team is comprised of a handful volunteers who share the same vision, which is to help our people that are in need. For those willing to know more about the work of the MBCA, they can email milnebayca@gmail.com or find us on
Facebook.
On behalf of the good people of Milne Bay we thank everyone who have offered their hand of support towards this cause and we look forward to more of such participation from the wider Milne Bay Community.
Together We can…. For Milne Bay.
