The National Capital District (NCD) Police have arrested one suspect in connection with the brutal rape and murder of a woman from Central Province at Watermark Estate, Baruni, in the early hours of this morning.
NCD Metropolitan Superintendent (Met Supt) Silva Sika confirmed this while interviewed by PNG HAUSBUNG.
Met Supt Silva Sika described the incident as one of the most horrific gender-based violence (GBV) cases in the city’s history.
Met Supt Silva Sika confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation.
“We will ensure that all those involved in this crime are brought to justice. This is a priority case, and our officers are working around the clock to track down the remaining suspects.”
Sika emphasized that police are actively pursuing leads to identify other perpetrators involved in the attack.
Investigators believe that the crime was committed by a group, and efforts are underway to apprehend all accomplices.
Police are calling on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious individuals or activities.
Authorities have assured the public that no effort will be spared in delivering justice and ensuring the safety of all citizens in Port Moresby.
Meanwhile, the public is urged to come forward with any information that could aid in the arrests.
