2020 Port Moresby Australian Football League (AFL) premiers, the West Eagles club, are into their third week of hard training and are looking forward to the start of the 2021 season this weekend.
West Eagles coach Mr. Danny Meli said the AFL pre-season will take place at the Colts Oval and the boys are looking forward to taking the field after a long wait for the season to officially start.
“We want to give everyone a chance of playing, especially the new boys,” said coach Meli.
The Port Moresby AFL season was supposed to start back in April, but was pushed back by a month, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions put in place as measures to prevent the spread of the virus at sporting venues.
However, the coach said the West Eagles will be going into the season with no official sponsor yet.
“Currently, we are looking for a sponsor and have already written letters seeking sponsorship,” he said.
The team is determined to take out the premiership for a third year in a row this year.
The Eagles won the premiership for both 2020 and 2019 making them the undefeated champions in the Port Moresby competition.
