Vital vaccines for COVID- 19 and for Routine Immunization have been discarded at the Kerema Provincial Hospital in Gulf province three days ago due to the power outage.
Gulf Provincial Deputy Director for Public Health Mr. Ben Bal said that the hospital has been operating without power for two weeks and have discarded their vaccines due to some of them getting expired and as well as the power outage at the hospital.
“The hospital has been operating without power because there is no stand-by generator and there is no support from the National Department of Health (NDoH) and no one is stepping in to help or assist.”
Meanwhile, the Provincial Health Authority (PHA) Board and the Kerema Provincial Hospital have no appointed Chief Executive Officer for nearly seven months now.
Mr. Bal expressed great disappointment of no appointments been done yet and has made a call to NDoH to step-in and do their job.
