Police in the National Capital District (NCD) and Central Province have reported several deaths in this festive Season.
Despite a quiet Christmas celebration, three people have lost their lives during the festive period, two deaths in Central Province and one in NCD.
Commander of NCD/Central acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Turi confirmed that the killing at Kwikila station has more than 10 suspects arrested and under investigation. The second death reported was at Gaire village which is still being investigated. He said the third death reported was a 17-year-old girl. Her body was found on Saturday morning at Nine Mile Vitis Industry area, police are currently investigating the matter.
He mentioned that these were the major incidents reported in the command including several stolen motor vehicle cases, with one recovered on Christmas night by police officers. The vehicle owner identified his vehicle, but the case is under investigation.
Despite these cases reported, ACP Turi stated that the command has generally been quiet, which is a good sign and thanked the public for ensuring a peaceful Christmas period. He also expressed gratitude to the Neighborhood Watch officers, city wardens, security firms, and police officers for their efforts in maintaining safety. He was pleased with the police responders towards these reports during the festive periods.
Furthermore, ACP Turi stated that the festive season operation continues until after the New Year, urging everyone in the city and Central Province to celebrate peacefully. He also mentioned that the contacts of all police station commanders and specialist section heads will be published for the public to report crimes or suspicious activities.
