The Commander for the National Capital District (NCD) and Central provinces, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Ben Turi, is making it very clear that there will be no protest whatsoever to be staged tomorrow in Port Moresby city.
He made this statement today following a particular social media post going around calling for the people to get out onto the streets to protest for the resignation of Prime Minister James Marape.
Mr. Turi has issued directives for his officers in the Command to be on high alert to make sure there is no protest in the capital city of Papua New Guinea.
He stated that there must be no repeat of Black Wednesday, as such a call to protest will no doubt ignite civil unrest leading to looting, robberies, killings and many more crimes of such nature.
“We will not allow any opportunists to go out of control and loot,” he stated.
“The city and country had suffered enough. As Commander, there will be no protest under my watch.”
Meanwhile, this particular post called for March 26th as a time where citizens across the nation unite in mass protests demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister, claiming that he has pushed the country into a dictatorship regime.
It went on to say that the government’s actions have crossed a line, and that the people can no longer remain silent.
Nevertheless, the public can expect the police to be out in force tomorrow to ensure that there is peace in the city, especially when there are a lot of events currently happening in Port Moresby this week.
