Tapila Health Centre in the south bank of Fly River, Kiwai Local Level Government (LLG) in South Fly District of Western Province is in dire need of basic medicines.
Its basic supplies have gone out of stock since last month and patients are not getting proper medical treatment.
This health center right in the Fly River corridor has been serving the rural Island villages.
According to Officer in Charge (OIC) of Tapila Health Centre Bruce Potto, basic medicines not received on time is affecting the clinical services.
“All antibiotics and suspension for children are nil stock. We are in need of medicines.” he said.
OIC Bruce Potto revealed that since the establishment of this health Centre in early 1980’s, it has been serving more than 15,000 rural villages in upper Kiwai LLG.
He said this issue has been made known to Western Provincial Health Authority (PHA) in Daru last month and they are still waiting for their supplies.
Currently, three health workers are serving in Tapila and no supplies are affecting the clinical services and some patients have been turned away due to this issue.
Health workers in Tapila are now calling on Western PHA and their leaders to help send their orders, so that patients can be treated well.
