The main suspect involved in stoning a Saint John Ambulance bus on Wednesday 21st November, has been urged to hand himself over to the law because his identity is already known by police.
The man resides along the Hiritano Highway at Akuku village in the Central province, some kilometres outside of Port Moresby city.
The Central Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Chief Inspector Joseph Salle confirmed that police responded and identified the man on the same day the case was reported, and his parents were told to bring the suspect forward.
“It was also alleged that some boys among the main suspect conducted an illegal roadblock at Doa Rubber plantation, while police were investigating the initial report of ambulance stoning. The suspects were extorting money from the vehicles passing through during their illegal roadblock.”
“The Central Quick Response Force (QRF) were notified on Sunday, responding at night and apprehended six of them. The six who were arrested were also identified as some who were involved in the stoning of the ambulance,” PPC Salle said.
PPC Salle added that the six men were arrested, charged with conducting an illegal roadblock.
“I want the public to report to police and make sure their complains are registered, especially when they come across illegal road block. This is for police records, so if police on Patrol apprehend such people, they can use the previous complains to charge suspects accordingly.
PPC Salle expressed his gratitude to the police officers for ensuring a free and safe highway for public use despite the many challenges.
He further added that police officers are always on the road to make sure the highways are free despite the huge gap without police posts along Kiwkila to Port Moresby along Maggi Highway and Port Moresby to Doa along Hiritano Highway.
